Transcript nothing more than to wander aimlessly from bar to bar with a pocket full of cover charges to get an A+ tour of the Texas sound-and all because of 6th Street's comfort and accessibility. Consequently, people feel that Texas already has a powerhouse and is satisfied with Austin's music culture. So what does Houston have to offer? Why would musicians choose to launch their careers here rather than Austin or even Dallas? That is the problem that bands like Lazlo, among others in this musically desolate hell, face when marketing their product. They are forced to embark on expeditions, traveling to and from every bar and club named, not to mention their stops in San Antonio, College Station, and of course, Austin. As an added challenge, the lack of worthy, talented competition allows poor bands to thrive here and play the same venues as bands like Lazlo, their gifted counterparts. However, saving grace arises in the form of local media. Programs like The Texas Buzz and Rice University's student-run radio station feature homegrown art ists as well as the present and future sounds coming out of Texas. i The spirit of music fj&2gidUttlHMP->ar1n Brandon Pepper
