Transcript Melodic Chaos You don't need to tell the local talent that they face countless obstacles trying to make it in a city like Houston. Decentralized, unorganized, and subsequently underappreciated, the Houston music scene has more strikes against it than selling points. Most crucial to Houston's stagnation is the absence of a musical motherland. There is no foundation for our musical superheroes to train, and frankly, it shows. Few bands have what it takes to run the gambit in this town, traveling from the Greek dives like The Cellar Bar, up to harder- to-reach listeners at Fitzgerald's and the Engine Room who have grown accustomed to hearing signed major-label bands on a regular basis. From there it's folksy college crowds at Helios and trendy crowds at The Proletariat, then back up to The Side Car Pub on the north side for Blues Brothers-eque "throw your beer at the band" rock and roll. Each new scene comes with its own crowd, each with different expectations. Developing a fan base and marketing your sound across this city can be daunting without a central "music district" for would- be listeners to retreat to with relative luxury. Such a saturation of musical supply and demand has given Austin the unofficial title as live music capital of the world. 6th Street has
