Courtesy of Beta Theta Pi The Interfraternity Council is an umbrella organization that promotes, coordinates actions among the members, arbitrates disputes, and enforces legislation, if the need arises. IFC members are fraternities that are in good standing with the University and Campus Activities and belong to the National Interfraternity Council. IFC acts as a liaison between the University, the student body and the Houston Community. The Interfraternity Council presently consists of eleven men's fraternities, which include Alpha Epsilon Pi, Beta Theta Pi, Delta Upsilon, Lambda Phi Epsilon, Phi Kappa Theta, Pi Kappa Alpha, Sigma Alpha Mu, Sigma Nu, Sigma Phi Epsilon, Sigma Chi and Tau Kappa Epsilon. Each fraternity is represented by one officer and one delegate. There are eight Executive Board Offices and Bruce Twenhafel, Department of Campus Activities adviser who serves as the adviser to the Interfraternity Council. Every year, IFC holds a formal rush. Formal Rush culmi nates in Bid Night, when the fraternity members welcome the new pledges they have selected who also chose them. IFC gets a new Rush chairman each semester, and each new chairmen brings new ideas. In addition, any problems with the past rushes are dealt with, yielding change, as well as the fact that any improvements that can be made are attempted. IFC is also about having fun and making friends. IFC members of local fraternities have the opportunity to socialize with other fraternities, a chance they might not have if they weren't IFC members. Some of the more enjoyable events that IFC members participate in are Push Ball, which has been a tradition of UH for many years; Fight Night, which is always a popular event; and probably one of the grandest events of all, Frontier Fiesta. Being part of the IFC does take dedication and work, but the bonuses of being part of IFC many of it's members would never trade for the world. • by Jennifer Herrin^ton GO COUGARS!
