Transcript Team eyes conference hampionships, then ettles for third place By the time the SWC championships ame along in early March, the Coogs iad let most of their pre-season lomentum slip away. The times which arned them a final third place finish veren't as fast as had been anticipated, and the Texas A&M squad iroved to be a genuine threat to that osition. Butterflier John Fischer made UH listory at the meet, however. His 51.04 win in the 1 00-yard butterfly made him the first Cougar swimming conference champion. The 800-yard freestyle relay team clocked a 6:52.45 at the meet, an automatic qualifying time for the NCAA championships. Other point-winning performances came from backstroker Ian Bertolina, breaststroker Jim Bradford, butterflier Craig MacDonald and freestylers Bob Supple and Bruce Greenwood.
