Transcript | Stats prove depth of winning squad Out of 46 games only two Coogs, Ralph "Rocket" Wheeler and Doug Phillips saw action in all, each batting .294 and .274 respectively. Other leading batters included Jerry Wille- ford with the highest average, .403, and Thad Altman with a .318 record. The overall team batting average for the season was .258. Other stats indicated Willeford and Wheeler with 29 and 20 RBIs and Wheeler with the most times at bat, 153. The leader in the stolen base category was Thad Altman with 32 for the season. Willeford smacked four hom- eruns and Wheeler and Bobby Hollis tied at two. Left Doug Phillips warms up in the bullpen before the game in which he is to start pitching.
