Transcript | Conference competition proves too stiff for Coogs Basketball The Cougars finished with an overall record of 17-11 but registered a dismal 8-10 mark in conference action while occupying sixth place in the league standings. The SWC tournament brought a ray of hope when the Coogs rallied behind Otis Birdsong to upset powerful Baylor and advance into the second round of play against Texas Tech. Although they fought gamely, the Cougars were simply outclassed and fell to the eventual NCAA representatives. Above right All-American Otis Birdsong lets a SMU ball fly out of bounds. Above Cecile Rose charges past a Baylor player and heads toward the unprotected goal. 140 Basketball |
