Transcript | Guest musicians give campus good sounds, warm feelings. RIGHT: Paul Mauriat of "Love is Blue" fame and his orchestra perform at Hofheinz Pavilion. Mauriat attempts to find a common ground between the divergent sounds of light classical music and hard rock. ABOVE RIGHT: Lightnin' Hopkins, legendary blues singer with such impressive admirers as Bob Dylan and John Lennon, gives UH students a sampling of authentic blues. Hopkins demonstrated the power of the blues; a power derived from the gut expression of feeling. FAR RIGHT: Throughout the year rock bands gave free concerts in the University Center. The spirit of these occasions, reflected in the ecstatic face of a drummer, usually overcame the poor acoustics. 34 |
