Transcript | (Continued from page 244) That was the last time the Cougars lost for the next month. During "No Cards Week;' when both the football and volleyball teams hosted Louisville, the Cougars fell again to the Lady Cardinals in a marathon five-game match. Nationally televised, it was virtually being played for the conference championship. After winning their final conference game over Memphis (3-0), the Cougars traveled to Louisville for the post-season tournament, looking to redeem themselves from the previous weekfe loss to the Cards that seemed to put the championship out of reach. The two teams exchanged wins in their first four games, setting up the fifth and decisive game. And after falling behind early, Houston rebounded and won the match 3-2, setting up the C -USA championship match against South Florida. But after winning in their first meeting of the season (a 3-0 shutout at Hofheinz Pavilion on Oct. 18), the Bulls returned the favor and won 3-1 to claim the conference title. Although the Cougars were knocked out of the first round of the NCAA tournament and lost four seniors to graduation, they had an exciting season that paved the way for one of the best recruiting classes ever. "In retrospect, if you review all the things that the team endured and accomplished ~ it was a good season;' Walton said.
