Transcript | The National Pan-Hellenic Council is composed of eight national fraternities and sororities: Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Delta Sigma Theta sorority, Zeta Phi Beta sorority, Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Sigma Gamma Rho sorority, Phi Beta Sigma fraternity and Omega Psi Phi fraternity. "Unanimity of thought and action" is the main purpose of NPHC, organized in 1930 at Howard University in Washington, D.C. Today, NPHC is headquartered in Indiana and the organization promotes interaction, encourages cooperation and provides support for fraternity and sorority members. Through conferences, meetings and the NPHC newsletter, members exchange information and address issues of mutual concern. The bond that unites each organization is dedication to addressing the societal ills of racism and poverty that are the root cause of many other issues that plague the African-American community.
