Transcript Since its founding at Miami University in 1839, hundreds of men have experienced the brotherhood of Beta Theta Pi. Included are the members of the University of Houston chapter, founded as Delta Upsilon in 1977 to continue those principles. The foremost purpose of the Betas is the pursuit of academic excellence. Beta Theta Pi prides itself for having one of the highest chapter GPAs in the fraternity. "We believe in a strong social setting as a way to enhance our academic careers!' said President Greg Soukup. Beta Theta Pi is also a fraternity of Greek loyalty. Betas participate in school-wide events and host parties and sorority mixers each semester. The Betas are also known for participation in intramural sports. Beta Theta Pi has maintained its tradition of brotherhood and continues to climb the Greek ladder of pride.
