Transcript | Established at the University Of Houston in 1956, Delta Zeta prides itself as an international sorority. One of Delta Zetas founding principles is high academic achievement. At the annual alumnae-sponsored scholarship dinner, various awards are given to those members who have excelled academically at the university. Delta Zeta sisters who finish the year with a 3.0 GPA receive a white pearl from Delta Zeta National. "We try to keep our minds on our books as well as have a good time and meet new people!' said new member Alexandra Ellingwood. A badge displayed in the National Library of Congress is given to the new member with the highest GPA to encourage members to focus on studies while participating in Delta Zeta activities. The sisters of Delta Zeta also have a full calendar of events throughout the year including mixers, formals, date parties and philanthropy benefits. Delta Zeta prides itself on the Center of Hearing and Speech philanthropic event, the Gong Show and Celebrity Golf Tournament, honoring Jim "Mattress Mac" Mclngvale. "We at Delta Zeta are very proud of the diversity and individuality portrayed in our membership. Through friendship and dedication, our college years are packed with fun times, leadership experiences and lifelong memories!' said Delta Zeta President Amy Payer.
