Transcript | Taking Care OF BUSINESS Vera June "My student workers are great. They work hard, get the job done and have fun while doing it." Financial Coordinator Reeda Hadley Two sections of Student Publications not often heard about are the backbone of The Daily Cougar and the Houstonian - the business office and the advertising department. The business office is important because its staff not only assists walk-in customers, but also pays the bills that keep the Student Publications department running. Headed by Director of Student Publications Dick Cigler and Financial Coordinator Reeda Hadley, the business office does all of the behind the scenes work for the department. They are assisted by a support staff of about five students, with a friendly, yet professional atmosphere in the office. "My student workers are great. They work hard, get the job done and have fun while doing it!' Hadley said. The other half of the support system for Student Publications is the advertising department, maintained by Advertising Manager Loida Casares. Advertising is actually two departments in one — display advertising and classified ads. This department is important to Student Publications since it generates most of the revenue that comes into the publications department, roughly $600,000 a year. This revenue is produced by student employees who are responsible for about 80 advertising accounts each. With this large responsibility, students can gain great benefits - student employees have the opportunity to learn the business of selling through experience. "This (department) is one of the best places to get experience in advertising while getting paid!' Casares said.
