Transcript | Year In Review Whether you preferred the front page of the Wall Street Journal or The Daily Cougar, it was truly a remarkable year. From politics to entertainment, no University of Houston student was untouched by the sweeping changes and events. At home, UH welcomed a new Chancellor/President and several new administrators. The music building got that much closer to opening its doors and the mighty Cougar football team roared to the Liberty Bowl. Freezing temperatures delayed the start of the Spring semester while the heat of April and May made the end of the semester seem unreachable. In the real world, students were part of a not-so-heated presidential election which gave Bill Clinton the title of first re-elected Democratic president since Franklin Roosevelt and ended Bob Doles reign in politics. In Houston, a minimum wage of $6.50 an hour was defeated while a new downtown baseball stadium was approved. Madonna shed her bad girl image and became a true 90s mother. The Houston Rockets welcomed Charles Barkley while all of America watched the antics of Dennis Rodman. Television debuted a new rating system to keep the kids from watching NYPD Blue and Ellen "came out of the closet" That was then...This is now. |
