Transcript | students in auirfte Imagine being a part of almost every activity on campus. Activities from Homecoming to what you watch on Channel 8. As part of the Student Program Board, students had the opportunity to sponsor such activities and many more. Not only is the SPB in charge of television programming for Channel 8, but was also responsible for bringing the Spring Arts Music Festival to the University of Houston campus. In April, many artists played their tunes in front of the UC-Satellite for students who wanted to take a break. One of the biggest commitments the SPB had towards the students were the Homecoming festivities. This year, the Student Program Board sponsored the kickoff pep-rally, and played a major part in the Homecoming bonfire, where students had the chance to cheer their Cougars on, as the Cougar Band played in the background. "The Student Program Board is a great chance to meet other people and be involved in the University," said SPB Director of Public Relations, Monica Quintero. In the fall semester, the SPB hosted the "StruttYour Stuff" contest, as many fraternities and sororities had the chance to lip sync, dance and step to their favorite songs. Winners for the 1997 contest were.Tau Kappa Epsilon, Chi Omega and Delta Upsilon. With all of the activities that the Student Program Board participated in, where did they get their money? The SPB is funded through individual student fees, giving every student at the university a chance to be a part of the team. "All I can say is that the SPB is a great learning experience, and gives students a strong participation in the school," said Quintero.
