Transcript | Continued from pg. 2 Arthur Smith Arthur speaks highly of his wife and her devotion. "I can't imagine doing this without June ... it really requires a team," he said. And the Mrs. agrees. "It is a team effort. We've always been a team in whatever we endeavor," she said. Their job of promoting UH and the UH System is endless. "What we both do is tell the story of the University of Houston to anyone who will listen," Arthur said. June adds that this often involves entertaining donors at their Wortham House residence in West University, to thank them for contributions. But all good things must come to an end, and the Smith team has discussed what is next on the slate once it is time for this job to be passed on to the successors. Arthur said he plans to retire from administration, but may return to teaching political science, something he hasn't been able to do full-time since 1973. No matter what he chooses, Arthur doesn't see himself going straight into full retirement. "It'd be hard to imagine going from this pace, from this level of commitment to nothing ... golf would get old very fast," Arthur says jokingly. But what impression would the Smiths like to leave behind upon their departure? "We'd like people to say of us that we made a difference while we were here, that we set a tone," Arthur said, adding that he hopes in academic quality will be realized by that time, benefiting all in the UH community. June adds, "We'd like for the community to say it's a great university." With their commitment to UH and each other, it looks as if the Smith team is already on its way to realizing these goals. **There is a kaleidoscope of challenges that come at you.
