EAGLES NOSE OUT LEEMEN TO WIN, 28-23 DENTON, Nov. 12—The North Texas 'States' Eagles handed the UH its third loss in a row here today, 28-23. The UH jumped off in a hurry to a seven-point lead, marching 80 yards the first time it got the ball. Alan Neveux, playing one of his finest games to date, tallied from the one foot line. The Eagles racked 14 points in the second with quarterback, Zeke Martin, taking full advantage of the spotty Cougar pass defense and firing two touchdown aerials. NTS went farther ahead in the third on a 78-yard gallop by Bill Lalicker. Two fourth period touchdowns by the UH knotted the score, with Rags Ragone, Floyd Winfield, and Neveux sparking the drives. Winfield scored one TD, and Mo Elliott scored the other on a 30-yard heave by Neveux. But the Eagles roared back and went ahead on another Martin aerial. The Cougars, almost got back in the game when Neveux kicked 84 yards to the NTS one. But the cagy Martin gave the UH an intentional safety to use up time, and the game ended 28-23. NT's great center, Eagle, stops Shannon. BILL BIDWELL Fullback JOHN O'HARA Halfback I A 307 |
