Transcript | Vanity Fair bars tradition Traditional "beauty" pageants outdated, the 37th Vanity Fair pageant had to change, also. Requirements were revamped to emphasize academics rather than simply beauty. Twenty-one women entered the preliminary judging round. Evaluations including activities, grades, poise and personality produced 10 finalists who were presented at the pageant. Kathy Ferguson was named Miss Congeniality, while Barbara Strobel was crowned Miss Houstonian. left: Barbara Strobel, Accounting Junior, is crowned Miss Houstonian. below: Judges Johnny Black and David Casstevens chat with finalist Mary Delmore at the reception.
