Transcript | TECH FUMBLES on the Cougar goal line as the Cougars stop Joe Rabb, Bulldog ace. Cougars Aubrey Baker (40), Dave Gregg (87), Bill Moeller (61), and John O'Hara (21) help pile up the play. CHARLIE BRIGHTWELL Back Cougar Mudders Dunk East Tex. 18-7 COMMERCE, Oct. 15.—Rain, mud, and an icy north wind failed to stop the Cougars as they came from behind to take their first conference game from the East Texas Lions 18-7. The Cougars started fast and drove deep into Lion territory before their thrust was halted. East Texas punted out and the Cougars started back and made it this time as Aubrey Baker, Boyd Tingle, John O'Hara, and Alan Neveux took turns ripping the Commerce line apart. Neveux plunged over from the two for the touchdown. The conversion was no good. Beautiful kicking by the Lion's Bobby Griffin set the Cougars in a hole in the second quarter and led to the only tally for East Texas. A pass from Bobby Wilkinson to Ray Robinson knotted the score at 6-6 and Griffin's conversion sent the Lions ahead. The Cougars came roaring back and Bo Campbell's scoring jaunt late in the third quarter put the Red and White team back on top. With the Cougar line throwing up a stonewall defense, Neveux added another score in the last quarter to widen the Houston lead. The attempted conversion was no good and the Cougars took the tilt 18-7.
