Transcript | AROUND END goes Jackie Gwin (22) against West Texas State as Buck Miller (60), Bill Hollis (73), Carrol Selby (85), and Bill Tingle (33) charge down on the Buff defense of Eddie Conner (10), Cloyce Box (24), and Lloyd Johnson (44). Heavy Miners Blast University 35-7 EL PASO, Sept. 25—Outplayed by a heavier and more experienced Texas School of Mines, the Cougars dropped a nonconference tilt 35-7. It was the Miners' game from the first time they got the ball. Led by Fred Wendt, Miner fullback, the boys from El Paso racked up three touchdowns before the lighter Cougars managed to push across their lone tally in the | third quarter. After the first Miner score, the Houston team drove to the El Paso 20-yard marker before being halted. In the second quarter, the School of Mines struck again when Wendt sprinted 23 yards to set up another TD. A blocked Cougar punt helped the Miners get their third score and, at halftime, the El Paso team led 21-0. Clark who immediately passed to Charlie Brown in the end zone. The rest of the quarter saw the Miners score twice and make the score 35-7. The last quarter was spent in Miner territory with the Cougars unable to score again.
