Transcript | Students ousted from park . . . administration asserts ultimate power via campus cops. 73 arrested protestors tour jail, released after school bosses drop charges. RIGHT: A highpoint of protest is reached as two demonstrators sit perched in the subject of the controversy. SECOND RIGHT: Officers of all ages and temperaments, similar only in uniform, prepare for action against students. Each face seems to reflect the officer's understanding of the Tightness or wrong- ness of what he's doing. BELOW: Students, arm-in-arm, await cops, who await orders —the orders came and the students went. BELOW RIGHT: Park controversy climaxes with campus cops ripping students away from trees and comrades. LEFT: Sterling Baker, assistant to top cop Larry Fultz, attempts to clear path for paddy- wagon headed for county jail. However, the UH administration proved to be a benevolent despot, dropping charges against the radicals when they agreed not to return to the site of their previous transgressions. BELOW: Integration in Texas hits a unique note as a white student is busted by a brother. FAR BELOW: The preordained result of a clash between student power and an entrenched establishment is dramatically shown as the mechanical spikes of a caterpillar flatten a slim pine. 125 |
