Transcript | Vietcong flag goes up in smoke, MAYO labels government meeting "hot air," blacks heat up over rumored political murder. OPPOSITE PAGE: Bill Ryan burns the Vietcong flag in demonstration by Rational Youth Movement supporting government policy in Vietnam. Flag burning precipitated minor c/ash between RYM and anti-war students. ABOVE: Students stage mock burial of H. Rap Brown, black militant rumored slain while in custody in Maryland. Over one hundred students marched solemnly behind the coffin as it was carried around the UC. The protest was given added meaning by the alleged murder of two blacks by Houston Police. LEFT: Mexican-American Youth Organization members form picket line to ridicule government conference on the needs of Latins in the United States. MAYO charged that the conference was designed to whitewash Chicano problems and gain votes for Republicans. 117 |
