Transcript | UH GETS 'BACK ON THE MAP' First appearance at Big Dance in 18 years ends in first round The NCAA Tournament is known for its dramatic upsets. The Cougars, making their first appearance since 1992, were the 13th seed, and drew the fourth-seeded Maryland University Terrapins. The Terps were not taking the Coogs lightly, and there was no doubt that UH was capable of advancing to the second round. Coming off of a four-game win streak the Cougars were carrying momentum into the first round of the tournament. With the tandem of Aubrey Coleman and Kelvin Lewis the Cougars would be a tough obstacle for Maryland. Maryland seemed to have the upper-hand throughout the first half, but as time was expiring Adam Brown hit a buzzer beating 3-pointer near half-court. The Cougars went into the locker room at halftime only down by two, with the score at 39-37 The Cougars came out and tied the game at 39, but missed free throws went on to haunt the Cougars, going 20-of-32. Maryland reclaimed the lead and never faced a deficit the rest of the way out. The Terrapins eventually won 89-77 Despite a loss the team had no reason to hang their heads. Coleman had 26 points, and Lewis added 22. "We made history. We got the University of Houston back on the map," Coleman said.
