Transcript | Kermit Zarley makes an acceptance speech at the Golf Banquet after being awarded the Golfer of the Year award. The two-time All-American won the medalist and match play championships in the 1962 NCAA Tournament. Taking up from there in the fall he won the individual titles in the Tucker Invitational, the Border Olympics, the Les Bolstad Invitational, the Florida Intercollegiate and the All-American Invitational. This set a new collegiate record of six straight tournament victories. Then, just to prove he was human, he failed to make the cut in the Southern Intercollegiate. The hardware awarded to the champions in the AAII is shown below. All but one of the nine trophies stayed at home with the Cougars. 281 |
