Transcript | THE HARVEST The annual sale of The Harvest, publication of the Writers' Club, set a new record in 1952 with 1500 copies sold in four days. Arnold Mercado served as editor-in-chief of the 1952 Harvest. Mrs. Jewel McCullough and Mrs. Vera Maxwell were assistant editors. Business manager was Daphne Buchanan. Jon Miller, editor of the 1951 Harvest, was acting sponsor of the Harvest and Writers' Club during the spring and summer semesters. Miss Ruth Pennybacker, associate professor of English, who sponsors the club, was in Iowa State University working on her doctorate in English. Two new awards were presented this year to contributors of The Harvest, in addition to the usual $15 prizes for fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and cover design. Dillon Anderson, prominent Houston author and lawyer, gave the club $250 for poetry and prose awards. $125 went to Robert Bigus for poetry, and $125 was divided equally between Mildred Phillips Hicks and Charles Ferguson for their prose pieces.
