Ledet Secretary-Treasurer Louise Long Editor of Village News Virginia Eves Sergeant-at-Arms W. C. Shead Sponsor R. 0. Jonas Housing Supervisor Mrs. Johnnye Murray The Village Council is the legislative body of the University veterans housing project. It was originated in September, 1946, and its members are elected by popular vote each semester from representative districts. The council was organized to give residents in the village voice in their local government and enable them to make suggestions for improvements for the village. It also acts as a representative from the village to the University. Since its organization the council has set up traffic regulations for the campus, provided playgrounds, and with the home economics department established the University Nursery School. The Village Forum was formed as a discussion group which plans village-wide parties and various other forms of entertainment. The Council has been responsible for making things brighter in the village this year with the erection of more street lights, and the paving of two more parking lots and several streets. 119 |
