Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia, was the birthplace of Phi Mu sorority ... its flower the Enchantress Carnation, and colors rose and white ... in 1852. Phi Mu members and pledges throughout the 76 national chapters support philanthrophies for Toy Carts and Healthmobiles in numerous crippled children's hospitals of the United States. Phi Mu also provides scholarship for foreign students. The UH group has previously won the Scholarship Trophy and carried on several charity functions. Here at the University, Phi Mu takes part in Frontier Fiesta, holds an annual Christmas party, a spring formal, a Founders' Day banquet, picnics, serenades and open houses, and gives baskets to needy children. Smooth sailing during 1956 was accomplished through the efforts of Mary Lou Daniels, president; Norma Plunkett, vice president; Jane Chiappetta, recording secretary; Peggy Pittman, treasurer; Lee Current, corresponding secretary; and Carol Kubitz, historian. 175 |
