Transcript | Sports by Greg Johnson, editor Bob Watkins, assistant editor It's been an interesting year for Cougar sports fans. The Cougar football fans were teased into visions of a perfect season, visions shattered on a°sunny Saturday afternoon in Georgia. Close observers of the UH basketball scene this season predicted that the team would have a hard time breaking .500 per cent, much less receiving an almost customary NCAA post season bid, they weren't far off in their predictions. One championship was brought home to UH this season, that being the SWC tennis team championship. The entire Cougar net team performed very well throughout the season, especially Lee Merry and Ross Walker. The Cougar swim team continued its improvement receiving good performances especially from some of its freshmen. One of the big sports stories of the year at UH was the retirement of baseball Coach Lovette Hill, a 25 year veteran of the UH coaching ranks. For Cougar fans it was a year of shouts and tears, jubilation and aggravation, but most of all a year of action and enjoyment tor all those who became involved with UH sports. |
