Transcript melodies MUSICAL GROUPS PERFORM DIFFERENT GENRES story by dondria cooper With a crowd of over 200 people ranging from young to old, the Moore's Jazz Band performed several songs of different genres including: swing, hip-hop, funk, and classical. Under the leadership of Noe Marmolejo, the seventeen band members played to an inviting crowd. With a special performance by a guitar teacher of the School of Music, the jazz band lifted the hearts of the audience and even provoked a marriage proposal during an intermission. Like most bands, the instruments included trumpets, saxophones, trombones (tenor and bass), bass and guitar. Marmolejo has been at the University of Houston since 1985 and is an active jazz and classical trumpet player. Throughout the course of the fall semester, the Jazz Band held ten concerts, and the members held a festival in the spring. With three practices a week, the band learned familiar tunes that listeners enjoyed. For more information, visit the Moore's School of Music website at www.music.uh.edu or www.uhbands.com.
