Transcript | Back row. Paris, Trotter, Busby French. Front row. Pierce. Girard, Cotton Reese, Calvert, Fenz Reese, Cotton, Girard, Ice Hockey, the first sport ever officially sponsored by the University, after five years of inactivity, was revived this year through the efforts of Coach French and Captain Paris. Entered in the City Amateur League, the team played two games with all others in the league, and two with Beaumont in Beaumont. The Cougars turned in wins over Rice Institute, by a score of 2-1, Lone Star Creamery, 5-4, and Beaumont, 2-1. Handicapped sorely by lack of adequate practice facilities, the team nevertheless made a splendid showing in the League. One factor of no small importance was their unceasing fight and spirit when facing far more experienced teams. Outstanding were former high school stars, Harry ( iirard and Captain Paris, who was high scorer; Jack Busby, whose good work in the net was invaluable; Gordon Reese, who was always in there hustling; Ed Cotton, a masterful puck handler, and fast, tricky Ed Maudlin. |
