Transcript | UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON SOCIETY OF ENGINEERS One of the oldest and strongest of campus organizations, the Society of Engineers has this year made rapid strides in advancing the place the club holds in student affairs. An intense drive was made For new members at the first of the year, without any lowering of the qualifications required of candidates. Result of this campaign was that the group had approximately 150 members. This included students working toward any type of engineering degree and comprised the largest roll in the history of the society. Among the major achievements of the group were the annual awards made to the freshman and senior engineering students with the best scholastic record, and a new scholarship fund, set up for the first time this year, to give financial aid to meritorious students majoring in engineering. Numerous field trips were made during the year to industrial plants in the Gulf Coast region to give members the opportunity to see the practical side of their studies in actual operation. One of the major social events ol the season, the annual Engineers Ball, this year saw Mary Turner given the coveted title. Sweetheart of the Engineers. |
