Description This is a political caricature related to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 or the Paris Commune of 1871. Within illus.: Refugium Peccatorum. Metz. Paris. (Signed by Fritz, a pseudonym of Tronsens). Caption: "Au moment même ou ce tout respectable Guillaume fait des efforts surhumains pour déchiqueter Paris, l'illustre Bazaine arrive tout heureux lui offrir le plat de Metz...Guillaume sourit...Badinguet ivre de vin et de bonheur étend les bras pour recevoir son meilleur élève. Fleury ivre d'amour ne saurait déroger à ses habitudes...Toujours un faible pour le sexe!!! Pendant que la faiblesse de Canrobert l'empêche complètement de voir clair à ses affaires." Caption (English translation): "At the same time as the respectable Guillaume makes superhuman efforts to tear Paris to bits, the illustrious Bazaine arrives happily to offer him the Metz course… Guillaume smiles… Badinguet, drunk with wine and pleasantries, extends his arms to receive his best pupil.
