Item Description
Title Banquet D'Ignobles Convives A Wilhelmshœhe
Alternative Title Banquet of the Infamous Guests at Wilhelmshoehe
Creator (Local)
  • Anonymous
Description This is a political caricature related to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 or the Paris Commune of 1871. Within illus.: Paris; Metz.
Caption Caption: English translation: "While Guillaume, charged with the duties of [officier-tranchant], tries to deploy all his skill to cut into the main course called PARIS, one of the main supports of the imperial and royal kitchen appears, bringing with great fanfare a huge cake labeled METZ. It is received by the joy of Badinguet already a little stirred. The other guests even though satisfied, are less obvious in their expressions of joy. Fleury occupies himself in courting Mademoiselle Badinguet who looks aside. Labeouf and Canrobert talk about the planned menu. Our Fritz, fuddled by the champagne, ferments his wine and abandons himself to sleep."
