Description This is a political caricature related to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 or the Paris Commune of 1871. Within illus.: Music Conservatory. Dentures. Jean Marie Farina. From the newspaper Le Charivari. Caption: "-Excusez! Caption (English translation): "-Pardon me! -I live across l’Elysée!//The visit of the sultan is bringing the fashion of wearing the hair out from the removed bottom of the hats.//-My husband doesn’t have a large chest; he received so many foreign decorations that his doctor made me wear half.//-Well, there are still stars above! I thought they had all descended to the buttonholes/lapels!//The Paz gym provides itself a forum to offer evenings of parliamentary struggles.//The Taurus of Provence calls for a European congress/conference to ascertain whether his opponent's shoulders touch or not.// -We have made them talk much about us during the Exposition, and yet we didn’t even get an honorable mention! -Ungrateful bourgeoisie! They haven’t even called for us!// Heavens! I’m not a jury! It’s not my fault if it’s the horses that get the honor medal.// Having introduced the artillery in orchestras, Rossini took command of Fort Vincennes.// -So, where are your canons/guns? -Mr. Rossini has made musical instruments. Therefore they have been withdrawn from the horse artillery.// Fury of the dentures that relied on a gold medal.// All the fake Jean-Marie Farina [stores?] let their faucets open to get revenge on the public of the Exposition for not having medals."
