Description This is a political caricature related to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 or the Paris Commune of 1871. Caption: "Jacques-Ah! Monsu le Mare, n'est-ce pas tout de même bien embêtant pour moi, ce qui m'arrive? Voilà, sauf votre respect, un porc que j'ai nourri pendant près de vingt ans et qu m'a couté, Dieu sait combien! Et à présent, il se trouve que je vais l'avoir soigné et engraissé pour le roi de Prusse...Je ne peux pas endurer ça. Le Maire-Que veux-tu, mon pauvre Jacques, il ne fallait pas tant le remplir, et surtout il aurait fallu t'en débarrasser depuis bien longtemp, tu aurais bien fait." Caption (English translation): "Jacques-Oh! Mister Mayor, isn’t what happens to me so very annoying? Here, with all due respect, I have a pig that I fed for nearly twenty years and which has cost me God knows how much! And now it turns out that I have cared for and fed it for the King of Prussia... I cannot endure it. The Mayor- What do you, my poor Jacques, it shouldn’t be that fat, and above all if you would have gotten rid of it a long time ago, you would have been fine."
