Transcript #2. I will tell the old fellow that he should have waited until the twentieth century and he vould have found what he wanted. Leaving this frivolity aside and talking seriously, I am glad that we have a young man with such excellent qualifications and it is up to you to recommend him to the councils in the Valley as I am going to be impartial and see that every candidate has a fair and an equal chance including J. C. Solis 1 -f he desires to run for the office. Furthermore, I believe that you should encourage Machado to stay in the race, specially if he remains a member of the San Antonio Council No. 2 for the reason that we may have to depend upon him to defeat Solis. I believe that the valley councils will follow your lead and I also believe that Eagle Pass, Del Rio and El Paso can be depended upon to support the person you and I recommend and if you can get Hebbronville, Laredo, Cotulla and Crystal City to send delegates you will be in a position to control the presidency and vice presidency as I expect to make you chairman of the nominating committee. One taing I would like to call your attention, specially after you have agreed with me that Canamar shall remain director of publicity, and that is that in the event Solis gets elected president general we must have the annual convention to be held in the valley or at Laredo otherwise,it will be within his power to nominate his successor. I am sure that the Rio GrandeCity Council will not ask for the office of president general as there is no person there who will devote his time to the office although we have a number of good material there. It is very possible that the best solution of our problem will be to elect P. G. Gonzslez president general and Machado, Vice President, as a sort of a compromise ticket but this should be left for the delegates to decide at the annual convention after every council has an opportunity to express itself upon his own particular choice. I had a very interesting conversation with our friend Roberto Austin yesterday afternoon and he suggested that I should write an article —what he terms a m*nifiesto-in Spanish which should be published in La Prensa asking the cooperation of our Texas Mexican fellow citizens toward the success of the annual convention at Del Rio. Accordingly I have written the enclosed article and nieape correct the same. and if it meets with your approval have the same oublished in La Prensa next Sunday. JTC/CG. Very traiy your friend,
