Transcript Page Four TAKE HEED! This little story is based on an article read in the Harper's Magazine. It appears that a country doctor became quite fed up with attending to the town's drunkard for headaches about one or two in the morning. The usual phone call from the drunkard's house came in one evening. The doctor decided it was time that the drunk had a lesson or two. He called up the undertaker and told him that a man had died. The undertaker was greatly grieved but would be over for the body in a short time. The informality of a small country town permitted the undertaker to make the arrangements in the parlor of the home when he found the front door open and no one ready to receive him. Hearing the noise in the parlor the drunk's wife opened the door, saw the preparation and screamed. This scream woke the drunk from his stupor, bleary eyed, he finally recognized the undertaker and the coffin waiting for him. Sobered for physical action he " let out a howl that frightened children four blocks away," and dove through the nearest window. When found two hours later he was hiding in a dark corner a great distance away. He never touched the stuff for the next three years. ". 1 .. ANSWERS TO QUERIES 1. The court: Just because this man was on his hands and knees in the middle of the street is no indication or proof that he was drunk. THE BLUE BONNET LITTLE OCKO SAYS ( ContinueJ from page 3) Somebody else back there told me that Dutton was going ashore and make a real Chief Boatswain's Mate out of himself:-: I wonder? * * :;: * Stopped in the Scullery the other evening and there was my friend Henry, Scullerymaid, writing poetry and letters at the same time .... not love is it Hank? Seems to me that when a two hundred pound squeeze- artist begins writing poetry something is in the air. ::: :;: *' * Now listen fellows, old Ocko is a pretty busy guy, and he does need a lot of help, so why not use that Contribution Box in the No. 1 Messing Compartment and let me in on some more of the real happenings in the life of the Rambler Ship and her crew ? ? ? Noone knows how those little short shots help when you're tired and the BLUE BONNET is waiting to go to press .... What do you say? That's all for this time, and I'll be seein' ya, Thanks. Little Ocko ...... YOUR BOXING SQUAD ( Continued from Page 1) six by KO's. Holton, we feel, should win decisively, provided he carries on as he did in his last bout. Colbert meets Sandy Sanchez, the lad that took a close decision from Carter, the former's stablemate. At present this is the card for our lads this Friday, 14 October, at the Wilmington Bowl. That does not mean the end of course, for Harris, Hodge and Martin are in fighting trim and go along for any bouts they may get. Harris and Hodge will take all comers of their respective weights and class. Keep an eye on this column fellows, more wins than losses will be recorded here. Help your boxing squad by keeping in contact with them. Matches between Martin and Morrissen, Hodge and Frietas were called off by the other parties. We hope they meet some day anyway. That's all for this week with Your Boxing Squad . . . . . . . USS Houston- lO- 18- 38- 1200. The submarine 8- 14 while running submerged off Bartlett R e e fLight, broadcasted a radio message that was clearly picked up over ten miles away. Coast Guard cutters engaged on tce patrol duty off the coast of Labrador and Newfoundland, reported extremely large icebergs, growlers, ::'! 1d ice fields during May. British warships of the home fleet are painted dark grey and those of the Mediterranean Squadron are painted light grey. The ships on the China Station, mostly cruisers and sloops, have white hulls and grey upperworks. Rear Admiral S. P. Carter during the Civil War offered his services as an Army officer to Lincoln. He entered the Arrr, y, rose to the rank of Major General, returned to the Navy, and rose to the rank of Rear Admiral, being the only man to hold both ranks. When the Dredge Hell Gate was towed from New York to Honolulu a distance of 6,700 miles a line was trolled the whole distance without a single strike. The word " Admiral" comes from the Arabic via the French, amir- albahr, commander of the seas. In the earliest days the striking of the bells indicated the turning of the half- hour sand glass by the quartermaster. ...... The youthful Romeo slipped his arm around the girl and kissed her full upon the lips. He then drew back to note the effect. The girl looked bored. " Jimmy, I went to the movies yesterday. And I'm disappointed in you. You don't kiss one bit like Tony Martin." " Maybe not, but you must remember that I haven't an Alice Faye here."
