Transcript FEBRUARY 14, 1986 / MONTROSE VOICE 27 Montrose Soap Let Us Entertain You By the staff of the Montrose Voice —o — The Houston Council of Clubs, comprised of the Colt 45's, Sundance Cattle Co., Texas Renegades and Texas Riders, once again, invite the community to join them when they host their annual Let Us Entertain You Weekend, These groups roll out the red carpet each year for a weekend of fun-filled activities when they host visitors from such cities as New Orleans and Dallas. Houston clubs included on this year's schedule include The Ripcord, The Barn, The 611, Cousins, Hooters, Chutes, Mary's, and Brazos River Bottom. A special spaghetti dinner will be held at Bering Memorial Methodist Church. Locals are welcome to join in the fun for a $10 registration fee. Registration will be held tonight (Friday) at the Ripcord and again tomorrow morning at The Barn. Another annual "not-to-be-missed" party is also slated for this weekend. Saturday night is Mardi Gras Finale. This all-night soiree begins at 10:00 p.m. with the strongest surviving until 9:00 a.m. Sunday. This year the Finale will be held at 2202 Polk with music by Robbie Leslie of the Palladium and the Saint in New York City. Today is the last day to cop tickets for $20. They will be $25 at the door. Tickets and T-shirts are available at Dramatika, 3224 Yoakum at Westheimer. The Ripcord thoroughly trashed Mary's last Tuesday night. But Mary's gets its revenge March 11. A family newspaper such as this cannot begin to print the scurrilous (but mostly true) things which were said by Rip- cord employees as Marys staff and management were forced to endure the humiliation. __□__ Heaven is hosting a "Tropical Aqua Fest Party" all this weekend. Beginning tonight (Friday), 10C well drinks 8-10pm followed by a Warner Bros, world premiervideo: Paul Jabora'n "Ocho Rios" at Midnight. Door prizes and drink specials all night with after- hours to 5am. Saturday sees 10C drinks again 8-10pm and DJ/VJ Michael Lowery spinning till 5am. (Show your Mardi Gras Finale ticket and there's no cover Saturday night.) Myer's Jamaican Rum and Cokes all weekend only $2.50. — a — Well, it finally opened. The Mining Company's new patio. And worth thewait. Multilevel cruising in the great outdoors. You can even peek over the fence now and see who's walking around on Pacific Street. DJ Jimmy Spaulding is now being heara at the Mine (along with Brian Broussard). —a — Womynspace, a women's community house located at 2033 Norfolk, will host a Sweetheart's Dance tonight. Featuring deejay Cherry Wolf, the party begins at 9:00 p.m. at the Masterson YWCA, 3615 Willa. — d — The first public planning meeting forthe 1986 Gay Pride Week will will be held February 23 at 4:00 p.m. at the Dignity Center, 3217 Fannin. Plans for the meeting include selecting a theme, formulating a tentative calendar, filling vacancies on the board, and the announcement of a new board chair. The Gay Pride Week '86 Parade will be Sunday, June 29. — D — Vick Jams of the Ripcord has been under the weather We wish him a speedy recovery! — D — On March 2 NRG, a nightclub located at 901 N Shepherd, will have a special party with all door proceeds going to KS/AtDS. — a — Welcome to John Freund, who recently, moved to Houston as a part of the Caven Enterprises management team. — D — Mary's naturally reports that the legend will continue. Ken announced on Thursday that a 20-year lease has been negotiated. Regardless of rumor, "Mary's ain't going nowhere." Mary's is here to stay but, unfortunately, Ken is moving on. He is being called back to the hallowed halls of academia. So long and good luck. All weekend is a party at the Brazos River Bottom, but Sunday is going to bethereaWy big party, 12 noon Colt 45's Cocktail Party. 1:00 BRB Brunch (Muy Bueno!), 2-4pm Show Time with the Flying W, Branding Iron, and special guests. David Royalty spins the records starting 4pm. Steak night starts 5pm. And the Brazos River Band plays starting 7pm Cousins Let Us Entertain You (that's L.U.E.Y. for short) events includetheCoun- try Express band and free aroma samples from the Touch of Leather" shop. Tonight they will be having Valentine's Day drawings, starting 10pm, for bar tabs, champagne, etc. Their Sunday night stars this week are Kandi Love, Koffie, Jerry Harper and Tina Rene. Yes folks, we're talking female impersonators, back again on Westheimer. ___□_ Take a Cruise on the Love Boat all weekend at the Galleon. Tonight it's "Lovers Bon Voyage Happy Hour" to 10pm.
