But. I do have a few messages left. Next year. 1 will salute some of the best events of 1986. Meanwhile. Happy New Year! Annual Missouri Street Aqua fest. Madame X (She could never Rive her name.) roared off Grant Street and into Gary Lee's new Oldsraobile at 1000 Missouri, careened hack into the street to rear end a TLC patron's car. sweep around to front end the same car; peeled across the streel to remove the right fender from a new Toyota before smash- Winner of Best Christmas Scene award □ A Big Thank You As all of us with Christmas in Montrose struggled through. The Living Nativity Scene was the most ambitious and the largest undertaking. Thanks to Rev. Gracie Lee who pulled together three nights of the event. On the final night, a full cast (if char acters was given a magnificent setting with the wonderful music from Bering Memorial Methodist Church Choir, under the direction of Forrest Henderson. The choir's efforts were underscored by the piano in the hack of the Palma pickup truck driven by Alton Marshall. The wonderful Christmas music straight from that morning's service, filled the air at Houston Sign Co. and gave a special meaning to this community pageant. □ Bumper Fest Christmas Eve put crowds back on Missouri Street similar to those at the First Boy Berry, the elf. greets Rudolf rose events is New Year's Kve. Before 1986 fades out, acknowledgement to Adopt-A-Block committee members is due: chair. Hah Baggot; coordinator, Elroy Forbes; Neartown rep. Sally McKee: Greater Montrose Business Guild rep, George Benedict; Neartown Business Alliance rep, Joan I.ackman. Thanks to other contributors: Sharon Weintraub, Stan Steele. Warren Dun- ing into a parked car at 1006 Missiouri, sending it into the Montrose intersection. Meanwhile. Madame X missed Hill Lammey, but creased his pants before swinging around backward and coming to rest in (he driveway across the streel from Bruce Smith's dental office. Six tow trucks, two police cars, and an ambulance crew worked for hours piecing the 10-minute incident together. As for Madame X. she was rushed off to Jeff Davis Hospital for examination. He had ne're a word to say. Her mid-Oil's Dodge "tank" suffered a few scalchcs and a cracked headlight. That was all of the visible damage. It was really a Rendezvous Missouri Street .his Christmas Eve. □ New Year's Eve: Conclusion of Christmas in Montrose The last of our 15 Christmas in Mont- Happy holidays from The Venture-N Venture-N; Dirty Sally's will have champagne and party favors. The bub hly will also How freely at The (il 1 at midnight.Tarn O'Shanter hosts Lou Ann Miles & Art Yelton with male dancers, buffet and champagne. Cousins will have drink specials, free champagne and Kody's Birthday Party. The Hunt Room will have a dinner celebration for $25 per person, featuring live entertainment and a bottle of champagne. □ New Year's Day Mary's Peas with a blackeyed pea dance, featuring continuous music from opening to closing with deejay Lary Thompson and by mystery guest deejays. B.R.B. plans drink specials and a Texas buffet of blackeyeds, cornbread and cabbage with the Brazos River Rand. J.O.E. will be open. Cousins has (he traditional meal and happy hour prices all day. The C&W weekend at The Barn continues thru Saturday. Numbers big event. Women of the Year Show of the Year, will be on Sunday. □ Around Town Stan Ford was met at Hobby not only by Gilbert Sanchez, but by Madame Whitmire. John On ens is still selling jams and jellies, but not his cookies. Billy Boy has been away so long. Danny was afraid of not recognizing him, Maria is offering a reward for any information leading to the recovery of Big Jim. the elf. meets Santa at Venture A' canson. Ron Rodricks. Jack Stowers, Melrin Dayton, Jim Spruce. Shirley Hitt. Lynn Derrick. Louis Young and all of the actors in the Living Nativity Scene. An open general meeting for next year's Christmas in Montrose will be called in January. For info: 529-1414. □ New Years Eve Events Mary's will hold New Year's Kve their traditional way with champagne at midnight, free party favors, vibrant sounds and stuff. The Barn hosts a ( ix-W New Year's Weekend with the Red Rulers 8-2, party favors and midnigbt champagne. Hot Rod has a 5-10buffet, party favors and champagne followed by after-hours dancing until dawn; K-J.'fi will have free champagne and a midnight buffet. Brazos River Bottom hosts a Mas querade Ball, with buffet and music by the Brazos River Band. A $3 cover includes midnight champagne and party favors. Chutes will have a black eyed pea and cornbread buffet You can "Flush HO" and bring in '87 at The _. . JH. Judy Blossom, Mary's new kitty AfikeCooley's New Year's Eve Blow Out promises to be his best ever. So many people in Houston from Dallas over the holidays makes you wonder about all the gold in the Big D Smart buyers are hitting the big l ickel items to take sales (ax off I.R.S. before 1987 hits My IRS. arrived Monday. FYI car sales will be big before New Year's Kve, but watch for targe new car discounts to come in around February. Many of us hope that tbe economy will surge foward in 19K7, If Christmas is any indication of our feelings, we have had enough gloom. Now let's con centrate on making something grand happen.
