Transcript 24 Montrose Voice / Sept 23,1983 MSA Softball Hands Out Awards, Trophies Sports By Chuck Meredith Treebeards Restaurant on Old Market Square hosted the fourth annual MSA Softball Awards last Friday evening, Sept. 16. After feasting on red beans with sausage and rice, plus shrimp etouffee, league members settled back in anticipation of the evening's awards. Playoff participant awards were presented to Catch One, Montrose Mining Company, JR's, Briar Patch, Barn, Miss Charlotte's and Jim's Gym for their contributions to the league this year. The Brazos River Bottom accepted the League's fourth place playoff trophy, while the Montrose Voice collected trophies for first place in the South Division and third place in the playoffs. The Galleon was awarded the second place playoff trophy, and Dirty Sally's was presented with both the League's Championship Trophy and the first place North Division award. Individual awards were also presented to each of Sally's 1983 team members. These awards were already expected, and now the members turned their attention to the evening's individual awards. These award winners were selected by a committee composed of the head of umpires for the league, Katin Osburn, and official scorekeepers Jack Carville and Chuck Meredith (your friendly VOICE sports editor). This committee considered all players in the league who qualified for the various awards and looked at season and playoff statistics, sportsmanship and team manager's input in selecting both nominees and award winners. Both the nominees and winners are to be congratulated for their fine seasons. Most Improved Players N. Div.—Herb Muenchow, Sally's S. The League was rendered inactive this past spring as the league bordered on chaos because of incredible first-year growth. Scott has been working since to mend contacts with bars, while setting up a smaller and more organized league. The Billiards League begins its news life with 12 confirmed teams and a possible four more. Scott has arranged seven new bars as sponsors, bringing the total number of participating bars to 13. Election of officers will take place on October 22. A Beminar on the official rules of play will be held in the near future. New players are still needed to complete several teams, so call Mb. Scott at 442-2808 and get a shot of her enthusiasm. □ Rage and Special Blend lead Women's Softball Standings Here are the present standings going into this weekend's competition of the MSA Women's Softball League.
