Transcript CLANTON W. WILLIAMS VI OB PRESIDENT ACADEMIC AFFAIRS University of Houston CULLEN BOULEVARD HOUSTON 4, TEXAS July 9, 1956 ^ w Mr. Noel Atherley, E. E. St. Joseph 3 Barbados, British West Indies I 111 Dear Mr. Atherley: Your letter of June 11 addressed to the Registrar has been referred to me for reply in the absence of Dr. Clanton W. Williams, our academic vice president* As you requested, we are sending under separate s~\ cover catalogs of our colleges of Technology and Engineering♦ In reply to your question about racial integration, I must report to you that the matter of desegregation is currently a subject of serious study on the part of the University and its Board of Regents, To assist you in your planning, the following information appears to be pertinent: it To date no Negro has been admitted to the University of Houston. 2. It appears likely that desegregation at the graduate level will be preliminary to admission of undergraduate Negro students. 3. Our Board of Regents will not meet again until the Pall, which means that no action can be taken which might affect enrollment in the Pall, 1956. Yours very sincerely, For Clanton W. Williams ekr
