Transcript ? SUMMARY OF ACTION OF BOARD OF REGENTS DESEGREGATING THE UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON The Board of Regents of the University of Houston did not take formal action desegrating or integrating at any particular date, but instead studied the matter and gradually assumed this status, in line with other institutions of higher education throughout the country. As early as 1956 campus committees were studying the policies and procedures of similar institutions, and without formal board action, the University admitted colored students meeting the admission requirements at that time. Increasing numbers of Negro students enrolled each year, and by the time the University became a member of the State System of Higher Education in 1963 it was taken for granted by all concerned that no racial discrimination was in effect, the same admission standards being applicable to all persons seeking entrance or transfer into the University of Houston. /■
