C, has asked us to write a chapter for the 1958 Yearbook* The Yearbook will be devoted- to a consideration of "Desegregation and the Negro College." The chapter which we have been asked to write is entitled "Desegregation of Higher Education in Texas." The main concern of this chapter is to define the current status of desegregation in higher education in Texas and to ascertain what effect desegregation has had, or is likely to have, upon the formerly segregated Negro college •» public and private. It is, therefore, our desire to make a fairly comprehensive survey of the provision of higher and professional educational opportunities available to qualified Negro students. Unfortunately, the least expensive and most practical method which we can employ in obtaining these data is that of the questionnaire.
