Transcript University of Houston 3801 CULLEN BOULEVARD HOUSTON 4, TEXAS OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT April 12, 1957 Miss Carolyn Jean Patterson 3811 West Pine Blvd. St. Louis 8, Missouri Dear Miss Patterson: Your application for admission to the University of Houston has been received and referred to me* You are perhaps not aware of the fact that the University of Houston has discontinued its College of Nursing. It would therefore not be possible for you to take nursing courses at this institution. I must further report to you that to date no Negro has been admitted to the University of Houston. The matter of desegregation is currently a subject of serious study on the part of the University and its Board of Governors. It appears likely that desegregation at the graduate level will be preliminary to admission of undergraduate Negro students. When a final decision has been reached, you will doubtless see press notices about it. Sincerely, Clanton W. Williams President ekr
