Transcript 1981 has witnessed many facets of Hot Shoppe growth and expansion. We gratefully attribute this progress to our millions of satisfied customers, the support of our stockholders, and the industry and loyalty of our 8,600 employees. A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT SALES AIMP PROFITS Sales have increased by $4 million to a total of almost $59 million in fiscal 1961. This increase was realized in spite of the estimated $2,000,000 sales loss incurred as a result of the severe snow storms of last December, January, and February. Profits after taxes for 52 weeks were $1,667,407 or 13% greater than the $1,476,051 earned for 53 weeks in 1960. The improvement in after-tax profits results primarily from the utilization of carry-forward tax credits from prior years. Profits before taxes in 1961 were approximately the same as those in 1960. We feel that this represents a satisfactory performance in the light of the winter sales loss and the non-recurring expenses involved in opening 16 new units (4 more than last year). Our operations are gradually absorbing the 2 new hotels and the 26 new food units of the past 2 years, and more normal profit margins are beginning to emerge. Cash flow (profits plus depreciation and deferred taxes) in 1961 totaled $4 million as compared to $3.3 million in 1960, representing an increase of 24% in 1961. This improvement reflects 1961 increases in both after-tax profits and in depreciation and deferred tax reserve credits. EXPAIMSIOIM Expansion in 1961 included new units and major remodeling in each division. We are especially proud of our new Marriott Motor Hotel in Philadelphia with its three beautiful restaurants. One of these, the Kona Kai, marks our first venture into the luxury Polynesian food field. This restaurant has already emerged as one of Philadelphia's most popular adventures in dining. Our expansion program will continue in 1962 in each area of our business. The sales budgets established for the Company at the beginning of the year forecast a 1962 sales volume in excess of $65 million. We expect our profits to also show a marked improvement in 1962. Your management is constantly alert to changing conditions and is currently evaluating several possible new areas of business expansion. MANAGEMENT PEX/EL.OPMEMTS The Company is placing heavy emphasis on the development and practice of the most modern, professional management techniques. Our entire executive staff has received refresher courses in this field. This program has already produced organizational changes in both individual and corporate responsibilities which will simplify and improve the management of our business. We have devoted years of research to the perfection of prototype designs for Hot Shoppe service restaurants, Mighty Mos, Char-Broilers, public cafeterias, Fairfield Inns, Marriott Motor Hotels, and airline commissary kitchens keyed to jet aircraft
