Transcript 244 cities around the world with either a Hilton Hotel, a Hilton Reservation Service Office or toll-free telephone service to the nearest Hilton Reservation Service Office. This system has become an increasingly important factor in stimulating a worldwide flow of guests to Hilton Hotels. The rapid gain in the number and wide distribution of the International hotels has magnified the scope of the marketing effort in other lands. Many of these hotels are designed with modern function facilities which frequently set them apart from other hotels in their locales. A number are capable of handling sizable conventions. The International company now has sales representation in 35 cities, including coverage of the United States market for travelers going abroad. Particular attention is given to those cities where much foreign travel originates. An unusual series of concentrated sales campaigns in selected cities was conducted during 1963. These served the dual purpose of familiarizing both Hilton International customers and salesmen from distant points with the new hotels in the system. The cross-fertilization of ideas and leads between our domestic and International companies will continue to be increasingly beneficial to both. At December 31, 1963, Hilton Hotels was operating or managing 58 hotels and inns around the world with a total of 37,553 rooms. DOMESTIC EXPANSION: The Corporation opened two new hotels and an inn in the United States during 1963, and another hotel was opened shortly after the new year began. Two other domestic hotels are under construction with the opening of one planned this spring. Construction is expected to commence in 1964 on the St. Paul Hilton. The New York Hilton at Rockefeller Center opened its doors on June 26. It was designed and constructed to be the aristocrat of a new generation of hotels. The 42-story guest tower has 2,138 rooms with a possible combination of 574 suites. The guest tower rises from the four-story podium which contains the public areas. The hotel has the greatest amount of exhibit space in New York with 130,000 square feet and was described by one publication as "the most spectacular convention hotel in the United States." Hilton is managing the hotel under a 20-year contract with renewal options. The first complete electronic data processing system encompassing the entire accounting functions of a hotel has been installed in The New York Hilton. It is linked with data in-put stations in the hotel's restaurants, bars and concessions and provides up-to- the-minute accounting of all guest charges. Telephone charges are also sent electronically to the computer and entered in each account. The computer is in service 24 hours a day to instantly print and furnish complete itemized bills at any hour. The Portland Hilton was opened in May 1963. The 500 guest rooms are in a 23-story tower rising above the four lower levels housing the public areas. The upper floors provide excellent views of the Willamette River, Mount Hood and other peaks of the Cascades. The convention facilities are the newest in the Pacific Northwest. The 11-story, 167-room Milwaukee Hilton Inn was opened in August. Centrally located at Wisconsin Avenue and North 26th Street, the Inn provides ample meeting facilities for small convention groups and for local business and social functions. Four levels of parking are provided on the site. Hilton has a 20-year management contract. The 300-room Kahala Hilton, opened in Honolulu in January, 1964, is luxurious in concept. The six acre leased site is next to the Waialae Country Club. Five miles east of Waikiki, the new hotel faces a strip of beach 1,300 feet long. Offshore, two man-made palm 13
