A 50 per cent stock interest is owned in Hilton-Burns Hotels Co. Inc., owner of The Hilton Hawaiian Village, and Hilton- Uris, Inc., which is building The Washington Hilton. A 25 per cent stock interest is held in Rock-Hil-Uris, Inc., owner of The New York Hilton, and a lesser percentage interest in the S.P.H. Hotel Company which is to build The St. Paul Hilton. Hilton Hotels International has 50 per cent stock interests in Hilton- Dorval, Ltd., owner of The Montreal Aeroport Hilton, and Kahala Hilton Hotel Company, Inc., owner of The Kahala Hilton in Honolulu, as well as equity interests in the owning companies of the Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Rome, Brussels, Orly and Dorado hotels and minor investments in several nonconsolidated foreign subsidiaries. The Corporation's significant investments in debt securities during the year were additions of $1,500,000 in bVi per cent notes of Hilton-Uris, Inc., and $1,187,000 in 5VS per cent notes of Rock-Hil-Uris, Inc., and $875,000 by Hilton International in 5 per cent notes of Kahala Hilton Hotel Company, Inc. Total investments of the Corporation and consolidated subsidiaries were $23,841,804 at December 31, 1963 compared with $23,030,498 a year earlier. SALES DEVELOPMENT: The Corporation is capitalizing on the advantages of its worldwide reputation and global system. Further refinements were made during 1963 in the coordinated program of advertising, business promotion and personal selling. The organization provides a balance between centralization for a unified approach and decentralization for aggressive effort at the local level. The principal hotel markets are classified as convention groups, industrial or commercial companies, banquet business, the travel industry and transient business. Total coverage of all national convention groups is being accomplished through personal calls by a corporate or hotel sales representative and by hotel general managers. Regional and state convention groups are receiving greater attention. The proportion of total domestic business represented by conventions is steadily increasing. Efforts are being directed towards attracting more international conventions to be held in this country.
