The institution of a centralized purchasing department during 1949 has also resulted in increased savings. Maintenance of Properties The policy of maintaining the properties of your Corporation in first class condition has been continued during the past year although the total amount spent dropped sharply due to the fact that a great deal of the program which was postponed during the war years has now been finished. Total repairs and maintenance for the year 1949 amounted to $2,149,334 as compared to $2,803,349 in 1948. The capital additions, consisting of expenditures for new furniture, equipment and modernization of properties, were $2,258,519 in 1949 as against $3,313,487 in 1948.
