Transcript rate of rising costs. Labor cost increases alone demanding service because of a research have been especially hard on the In-Flite program it started over two years ago. Out of group during the year. New kitchens were opened last year in San Juan and Honolulu—two major vacation lands for North Americans. A second kitchen also was opened during fiscal 1970 in Newark, New Jersey. Other kitchens, such as at Dulles International Airport and Dallas, are being outfitted for the age of jumbo jets. And a new unit will be opened in Seattle in 1971. Marriott was the first independent airline caterer to serve the giant Boeing 747 jet. Pan American Airways' maiden flight from San Juan to New York last February, with 362 passengers on board, was catered by Marriott's San Juan kitchen. The company was ready for this highly- this came a special truck which solves the problems of unloading and loading galleys for a 360-passenger aircraft in 30 minutes. Marriott now serves the 747 at Dulles, Chicago, and Los Angeles, as well as San Juan. And other airports will be added to the chain as the wide-bodied jet flies to new cities in the United States and abroad. Marriott is also preparing for the second stage of growth in wide-body jets. Work is progressing on adapting to the Lockheed 1011 and Douglas DC-10 super jets, to be flying in 1971. Special efforts are being made, with success, in accommodating supplemental air lines. These airlines are growing in size and routes around the world, and Marriott sales to them reflect this growth. Several internal changes and improvements during the year enhanced Marriott's leadership position in the industry, and made solid contributions to fiscal 1 970 results. Computerized monitoring of Marriott costs and prices enables customers to review charges for all food items—down to the pars- 14
