Transcript adding 50 rooms during the year by renovating existing suites. The Hotel group strengthened its already widely-acclaimed resort, Camelback Inn near Phoenix, with an 18-hole championship golf course nearby. The first Marriott Inns under the company's new franchising program opened in fiscal 1970. The Inns contain a total of 910 rooms, and are located mostly in key Mid-western cities. Marriott Inns, averaging about 200 rooms and carefully styled in the luxury image of Marriott Hotels, are a promising development in the accommodations field. They are authorized to franchisees only under strict criteria, and are monitored according to the same overall standards of excellence applying to the hotel system. Under these conditions, and with a generally tight money market, the Inn program will proceed only on a highly selective basis. One new opening and four construction starts are scheduled for fiscal 1971. While the Hotel group is entering new markets with exciting properties, it is expanding its nationwide sales force . . . improving its ability to accept reservations anywhere . . . exploring steps to further automate front desk operations .. . and planning ways to strengthen its already leading position in attracting group business. The emphasis is on growth, innovation and service as a new age of leisure time and travel develops in the 1 970's. 11
