It is against this background that the Jrs. keep growing. They moved into new territory—New Jersey—in 1 970, and other new areas will be entered in fiscal 1 971. Roy Rogers Roast Beef—This franchised fast food concept grew to over 130 units last year despite an increasingly competitive, and financially-difficult, climate. Most of the United States and Canada is franchised now. Attention is focusing on critical site selection, tight operating controls, food and service standards, and sales promotion. Company-owned units on the East and West Coasts now number 24. The eight in Washington are particularly successful. Despite the "shake-out" generally being experienced in the franchised, fast food field, the company has reaffirmed its determination to make the Roy Rogers program a viable long term national concept. Food Service Management—Company leadership in food service extends to the special ized business and institutional market. The Business and Industry Division had an especially strong year in 1970. This unit operates cafeterias, executive dining rooms, and even sundry shops and coffee carts for a number of "VIP" accounts.
